- This book would be a great resource for anyone who is confronting a diagnosis of Alzheimer's. It is packed with comprehensive information for caregivers, patients, family and friends. It is an exhaustive compilation of symptoms, treatment, how to seek help, how to set up your home, and when the time comes, how to find quality residential care. It is written in clear and concise language.
What I found uniquely interesting and useful is the author's very frank personal advice based on her own experience. Her initial confusion about her husband's symptoms and his initial reluctance to accept the diagnosis, as well as her dealings with family members who had different ideas about treatment are very moving. How she dealt with each of these situations are illuminating, and would be useful to anyone confronting this disease. - Thank you Bettye Musham! This book allowed me to revisit the years of my own mother's dementia with a new understanding and even appreciation of her condition, Although, I regret that I did not have this incredibly candid and loving guide at the time - In consolation, I know that this will not be the only time I will all be confronted with dementia personally, in family, friends and loved ones. Most notable throughout the book is the love, dignity, compassion and respect Ms. Musham displayed in the care of her beloved husband. Too often caregivers give in to the hopelessness and combativeness, wanting to "fix" a situation. Ms. Musham introduces us to techniques (Knack) numerous checklists and resources to avoid the dark holes and live positively in the present . The discussion of Retrogenesis and Staging I found to be illuminating. The reflections on Death and Post Traumatic Growth, uplifting.
This book is timeless and should be considered not only an "insider's" guide but a "survivor's guide" in living with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's. - When you or a loved one receives a diagnosis of Alzheimer's, Musham's book is invaluable. Her book is a memoir, a memoir of love and pain, and filled with the answers to questions you hoped you would never ask. It is an invaluable book that covers every aspect of every issue confronting the caregiver, from finances, to physicians, and even how to manage the inevitable end of life care and family issues Musham provides the expert and researched advice that is needed by everyone in this terrible situation. She details the disease progression and how to best manage it, and gives practical solutions to what seem intractable and heartbreaking problems.
In summary, a wonderful resource and Musham has done a great public service in compiling all of this information and guidance in one volume. - Yet another "Sealed Portion" hoax trying to take advantage of gullible Mormons. If you've read the Book of Mormon and other LDS scriptures, there is nothing new here. This book is mostly a retelling of familiar stories with a few added details, none of which would give you any new insights into the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
I suppose the one virtue of the book (which is why I give it two stars instead of one) is that it's not necessarily presenting a false view of existing scripture that it copies, but this book is not what it purports to be. It is not the sealed portion of the Book of Mormon.
It seems to be carefully crafted in a way that some gullible Mormons will believe it. - Well the title is appropriate. It is NOT the Sealed Portion. The book consists of scriptures we already have from the Bible, Book of Mormon and D&C, mixed in with the authors own added "scriptures" to tell the stories told in the book. I would compare this work of fiction to the other "Sealed Portions" men have produced over the years. I bought this book only for my own personal records because I have been following this movement since it all started in the USA almost two years ago. The book was incredibly boring to read and unimpressive in its content. For being newly revealed "scripture", the author has almost went overboard using lots of big fancy words and phrases to where I was scratching my head trying to figure out the message they were trying to get across. Don't waste your money on this one if you don't have to!
- It’s more than a regurgitation of existing scripture, it fills in some interesting and important details. I won’t try and defend the process, production or release of this book because it available at “†cost - which says something of intent. However, I’ve also managed to confirm and understand certain elements of content I’ve discovered through prayer and scripture study over the past few years. For one, it says plainly that polygamy really is evil. Wait - didn’t King Benjamin say the same thing? Oh, and don’t miss the evolution of Satan’s efforts at opposition through the name Mahan. It’s about the details - meat from bone. If you’re still on milk then by all means, turn away, attack or belittle. Things are changing. Lines are being drawn. How one accepts this book depends on personal revelation, but also security in their existing faith and beliefs. Glad to be the first to give it five stars.
- The book, "The Sealed Book of Mormon", is a translation from 19 plates that are part of this 42 plate sealed portion. A couple books that are part of the other 23 plates includes Prophecies of Samuel the Lamanite and part of the Revelations of John. The translator, Mauricio Berger, says that we will receive the rest of this sealed portion, "when the people of the church are living in accordance with these first teachings." Although these plates are part of the sealed portion of the Book of Mormon, they are only a small portion of the whole sealed part. You can see both sealed portions in the picture I have attached. This picture is before this sealed portion is opened, but you can see the division.
It can be read quickly at less than 200 pages. There are three books, "Words of Moroni", "The Sealed Book of Moses", and "Acts of the Three Nephites." We learn a little more about the life of Lehi and his birth name of Elasah.
The largest book is "The Sealed Book of Moses at over 130 pages. It gives more details about Satan and the mischief with Cain, also info about Enoch and Noah.
The last book about the 3 Nephites, doesn't read like Acts in the Bible. It is more of an overview written by one of the 3 Nephites - Jonas. The last chapter where Christ explains the Allegory of the Tame and Wild Olive Trees is very interesting.
English is not the primary language of the translator and this is evident in several word choices. That is why I didn't give this a 5 star rating. There is not a great deal of new information and it may not meet the expectations of many because it does NOT include the much larger sealed portion that has the record from the brother of Jared. That larger sealed portion will be revealed in the future.
This book should not be judged just by the words in this portion. You should also review the testimony of the witnesses. Three of the witnesses were also present with the angel Moroni. There were 8 original witnesses that came from the United States to evaluate the claims. Many of those witnesses were very skeptical and were only convinced of the validity of this record upon thorough examination and spiritual witness. This book does not fit into the category of other fake sealed portion accounts.

The (google) translation is awful, the content is myopic and unoriginal, it contradicts established scripture and "reveals" nothing worthwhile. In the crowded field of Book of Mormon fan fiction, this piece is relegated well to the back of the pack. Not even an interesting read.
Given all the effort that went into producing the replica plates and sword(s), I expected more time and care would have gone into producing this fraud as well. Unfortunately, it appears the author is relying on the relics to convince, rather than on the actual content of the book. And he was pretty successful at duping folks, given the number of people who wholeheartedly believed him and lauded him as a prophet even before this book was published, based only on his claims and his plates.
Sadly for him, now that it's published, some followers are quite underwhelmed at this lackluster effort. I do have to say, though, that the approach of producing plates first, and allowing witnesses to hold and photograph them was certainly novel and laid a solid foundation for a truly great deception, though the plates were not all that well done. Happily, that effort was squandered by a terrible lack of aptitude when it comes to imitating scripture. Other frauds are much more convincing.
So if you’re looking to be duped by fake scripture, I suggest you look around at some of the other phony stuff out there. This one is fake enough, to be sure, but so bad it likely won’t even deceive you. And what’s the fun in that?

- I heard this author interviewed on the Adam Carolla podcast and knew I had to read his story. This is his account of joining the CIA and working as a field operative in Afghanistan and Syria. His stories are fascinating and his writing keeps the pages turning.
Laux does a great job of telling the stories he believes need to be told. Strangely enough, his style was to just try to tell EVERYTHING without holding back and then let the folks in Washington decide what should and shouldn't be redacted. The results were fascinating and even more informative than I expected. In some cases you could read between the lines of the redactions (which were actual black bars across the page) to figure out what was going on. The details (like the amount of money paid to sources in the field) weren't critical to the story and things kept moving along regardless of the blanks. Some pages were entirely filled with black bars, which was kind of comical but also underscored the sensitivity of the topic. I'm still shocked with how much he was actually allowed to print.
Stories like his should be required reading for all Americans. How else will we ever know what's actually happening in the world and how else will we begin to understand the sacrifices that so many men and women are making on our behalf?
The contents of this book were gripping and the co-writing was excellent.
Thank you Doug Laux for your service to our country. - A friend of mine recently recommended this book to me. I'm a fan of ground level first-hand accounts of war, and this was a uniquely personal look into what Afghanistan was like for a young hard-charging CIA field officer. In contract to the various high-level academic treatments of intelligence operations in the Middle East, I found this to be a vulnerable and engaging personalized narrative. Mr. Laux transitions from an innocent patriot through exacting field training and ultimately experiences the soul crushing horror of war. It's a story familiar to a lot of military veterans, but the added dynamic of maintaining cover identities - and the toll this took on his psyche - was a sobering albeit much needed addition to the conversation about benefits and costs American global leadership. I found myself wondering how many others who didn't have a cover rollback are suffering in silence somewhere out there in our country.
I have read some reviews that were critical of the many redaction that have been reprinted in this book. They certainly interrupt the pace of the book, especially when the action gets juicy. But for me, the CIA was very much a character in the story. The redaction simply felt to me like its shadowy hand print rather than some overt attempt to add drama. It's true that with even a modest understanding of the regional geopolitics a reader can probably infer what is missing from the page. For me it had the effect of coloring the CIA as a silent character within the narrative.
I would recommend this to anyone with an interest in the human side of intelligence operations. - A fun read, I quite enjoyed the action and the tales of ridiculous government inefficiency. Doug seems like a hard working guy who gets things accomplished in a bureaucracy that awards keeping ones head down. As one of the extremely few Pashto speakers in the govt he should have been valued more highly.
Some reviewers write that's he's a bit heartless but I think a bit young and blissfully unselfaware especially regarding the relationship drama in the book is more accurate. "I'm going for a quick walk to relax.", "doug you've been gone for 3 hours"...and so on...
The blackened out redacted portions are hilarious as you can guess half of the words and it doesn't seem there are any real secrets in the original to begin with. - I don't usually read this type of book, but I saw the author's AMA on Reddit so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm glad I did.
The book offers a fascinating glimpse into one CIA Case Officer's experience trying to take down a major IED network in Afghanistan. Beyond just being a good read, this book really drives home the personal sacrifices that MANY people make every day to try to bring down terror networks and keep Americans safe.
Irrespective of any personal opinions readers may have about the CIA, and the recent conflicts in the middle east, I think this book gives a valuable perspective on what it was like to be an American C/O in one of the most difficult and dangerous places in the middle east.
Some have criticized this author for breaking an unwritten 'code of silence' to tell this story - and I wonder if the one-star reviews are primarily driven by this group. Although I respect those opinions, I don't fully understand them - I wish more lower-level operatives would tell their stories so that we get a more balanced perspective on u.s. activities here and overseas. - I picked this book up after hearing an interview with the author on the Adam Carolla podcast.
For what I assume is the author's first attempt at writing, it's pretty darn good. There are some holes, such as, I wanted to know more about his personal relationships with the women in his life. I felt there were pieces that were left out, or not given their due.
That said, I found the insight into his life in the CIA and his interactions with the Taliban to be fascinating to the point I found myself citing the book when speaking with others. Any time a story can leave me thinking about it during my day tells me it's a good one.
So thanks for that.
I recommend this book to anyone who has even a passing interest in either the CIA or the Taliban.

"Great book, exactly what I was looking for. I don't always follow the lessons, but sometimes modify or glean from it. But it's a great starting point when I hit a choreography/lesson planning block. I love that each combination is broken down by counts. It's so descriptive, I can imagine the moves in my head very clearly as I read it. Well organized, full of interesting combinations."

- Great book, exactly what I was looking for. I don't always follow the lessons, but sometimes modify or glean from it. But it's a great starting point when I hit a choreography/lesson planning block. I love that each combination is broken down by counts. It's so descriptive, I can imagine the moves in my head very clearly as I read it. Well organized, full of interesting combinations.
- Such an undertaking as this isn't easy. Anyone who would assemble class combinations for use by dance teachers is bound to run into a little criticism and misinterpretation. Firstly, the combinations, for the most part, are Intermediate-yes some are advanced-not all. The counts are often not correctly marked. There are some misspellings. No french accents are used.
I'm sure someone who didn't have enough classroom material would benefit from usage.
Ruth Page edited a wonderful book-Class- notes on dance classes around the world-(1984) a must have for dance teachers, great combinations from great teachers-Advanced material. Another one is- Lessons in Classical Dance- Sophia Golovkina-Advanced material, detailed counts, spelling and use of french accents.
Last, but not least, simply go to Youtube and use Vaganova Tube, great combinations.
All in all for Stanwood's book- good try- keep trying. - Page by page and with pinpoint accuracy- lesson by lesson phenomenal workout-the importance of muscle memory and maintaining Barre work-
- This is probably one of my favorite ballet books, and I have MANY! The combinations are easy to understand, of course easy to blend with your own style or level changes, money very well spent! )

- This book is a great resource for ballet teachers. As ballet teachers we all struggle periodically to keep our material fresh, but not too choreographic to make sure our students are getting good solid technique every single lesson. There are a lot of existing resources out there already, but most of them are extremely complicated, or not notated very well, or translated poorly from another language. I have many books with ballet combinations in them, but I hardly use them, because of the time it takes to even figure out what the combinations are. When I first got this book, I randomly selected combinations throughout the book and skimmed them for content. With every combination Tamara has written, I have been able to grasp the full concept of the enchainment with only a few seconds time invested. Each combination is written clearly with concise musicality and correlating port de bras.
I also loved that the content of her combinations was great as well. Her combinations are methodical and mathematical which, in my opinion, is the best for students of all levels, beginning to advanced, so they can meet their technique "head on" and see what is really going on in their dancing. Most of these combinations would be just as well given to 13 year old students as to advanced professionals. I appreciate being able to have a resource that shares my own teaching philosophy in this aspect.
I did find one echappe combination for pointe that wasn't square, but that wasn't enough for me to rate it any less than 5 stars.
Trust me, ballet teachers, this is something you're going to want for those days where you can't find fresh inspiration within yourself, and you need an outside voice to nudge you in the right direction. - This is a very comprehensive book with easy to follow combinations. A book of combinations so in-depth is a great resource for any ballet teacher!
- This is a fabulous book and a must have for any ballet teacher. The combinations are easy to demonstrate, clearly written and just right for the advanced class. I love using this book for my classes.
