"This is an excellent product for anyone trying to find their way through the US Immigration maze. It offers helpful advice that most importantly is correct. While trying to find information to help with the mountain of paperwork you have to fill in and collect, I've seen so much bad and faulty advice given out on forums that in the end I gave up trying to find any help online and just used this book.
Details step by step how to fill in forms. What information to collect. What to take to interviews. For the many different types of marriage visas. I like to think that its thanks to this books clearly outlining clearly just what was needed and in what format that we were able to submit all our paperwork and get our interview and green card all within 60 days.
I highly recommend this book for anyone even thinking about marrying someone from outside the USA so that you have a clear idea of what to do before you get married."

- This book was the best thing I could have purchased to complete my Green Card application. My green card originally was being processed thru my work by lawyers, and it was a horrible experience. At the same time, I met a wonderful person and we got married. I was still under the H1B visa. We decided that the lawyers were taking too long (after 1 year they had not even submitted the application even though the cost was already several thousand to the company), and we could not risk my losing my job and having to leave the country. So I began the process myself with my husband sponsoring me instead of the company I was employed by. I used this book as my only reference and the process went extremely smoothly. This book was easy to follow, accurate, and had any exception possible, including mine. I did exactly what was recommended by the book. Each form needed was accurately described right down to how each field should be filled out. It was very clear and sequential. The checklists were wonderful as there was a lot of documentation that had to be completed. The USCIS website could be very confusing, but this book clarified any questions I had. Plus it not only explained how to apply, but how to change my status from conditional to permanent, and what to expect at each step along the way.
I am so very happy I chose this route as it really was a reasonable process to complete, just not very clear on the USCIS website, and not worth spending the $200 an hour on a lawyer. The book does give situations where it recommends getting help and the advice given in the book is very sound. I highly recommend this book regardless of if you get a lawyer or not as it details what to expect, what is needed at each step in the process, and how to deal with special cases. It also recommends what not to do to avoid being rejected, and if you screw up, your options. It is a very complete and concise guide! - I have recently become engaged to a beautiful, wonderful and supremely intelligent Colombia Lady.
We had look at different wedding options and have also hired an Immigration attorney to help us decide the best approach to getting my fiancee to the USA. With all the issues about illegal immmigration we both wanted to be sure that all the "i's" were dotted and the "t's" crossed.
After a lengthy consultation with our attorney we found this book to be an invaluable companion and a source of information that we could sit down and "digest" at our leisure and simply move to the chapters that applied to our situation.
We would highly recommend this book as a "text" and a great reference source for anyone seeking to obtain a legal immigration status into the USA.
The information is complete, concise and easy to understand. The recommendations as stated in various parts of the chapters are certainly worth looking into.
Overall we would highly recommend this book/text. - This is an excellent product for anyone trying to find their way through the US Immigration maze. It offers helpful advice that most importantly is correct. While trying to find information to help with the mountain of paperwork you have to fill in and collect, I've seen so much bad and faulty advice given out on forums that in the end I gave up trying to find any help online and just used this book.

I highly recommend this book for anyone even thinking about marrying someone from outside the USA so that you have a clear idea of what to do before you get married. - In general the book was a valuable resource. The frustration was in the instructions and samples for filling out forms. There are numerous examples of filled out sample forms that contradict the line-by-line instructions. Granted, some of these are minor issues, but should I really have to stop to decide which is better?--one of them is obviously a mistake. It would have been nice to have a better proofreader.
Examples of mistakes just on I-130 form instructions (Chapter 7)
Instruction Line 1 Family name should be in CAPS [it even says that in the box ON the form!]
Sample form Family name not capitalized
Instruction Line 10 US citizens can write N/A here
Sample form "none" [Book previously differentiated between use of "N/A" and "none"]
Instruction Line 14a US citizens should write N/A
Sample form Blank
Instruction Line 17 Since your spouse is already covered in this application, just list your children
Sample form Includes spouse's information along with child
Another thing that didn't inspire confidence was when the instructions were less explicit and detailed than the official USCIS form instructions. For example, the official instruction for the I-130 form encourage the applicant to include, in addition to certain required attachments such as photos, birth certificate, fee and marriage certificate, "one or more of the following types of documentation that may evidence that bona fides of your marriage..." These included evidence of a child together, comingling of resources, joint tenancy, etc. The book was silent on advice for submittal of this additional evidence.
Too many times when I needed an explanation for a line the instructions said, "self-explanatory." It wasn't.
The main value of the book was to get the big picture of the process all in one place and to supply advice based on someone's experience to encourage me that I was on the right track and I could do it without a lawyer.
